Ricky Martin will perform at the SAP Center in San Jose on November 14, 2021. Roman Gokhman/STAFF.

San Jose-it is difficult to hold a truly equal joint lead stage performance. You usually get one of two things: the final scene gathers all the crafting skills, or the first scene is allowed to destroy the secrets, making it less interesting the second time. Therefore, after Enrique Iglesias used moving walks, lasers, jets, confetti showers, etc. to blow up the roof of the SAP Center on Sunday night, he saw Ricky Martin ) Step onto the stage and perform the same exaggerated setting without recreating any of Iglesias' tricks.

Two heartthrobs of Latin music brought a one-on-two blow, keeping the audience standing on most of the show, focusing on the hits of each artist in Spanish and English.

Enrique Iglesias performed first. The main stage protrudes from the crowd in front, while the second large stage occupies the back of the floor. The 46-year-old band member and about 9 band members, including two supporting singers, opened colorfully when Iglesias was surrounded by the large LED screen of the 2013 English pop song "I am a freak" . In the next "Chasing the Sun", he began to slide on the T stage protruding from the main stage. It takes careful observation to realize that there is a real track, like a treadmill, transporting him back and forth. This conveyor belt allows him to slide smoothly and even run in place. The song itself is very suitable after the opening, which is surprising considering that it is the new tune of the September album FINAL (Vol.1).

During the "I Like It Feeling" period, Enrique Iglesias' band performed on a wide, brightly lit column, emitting flames. But fire is not used to create a surge of adrenaline or shock the crowd, but to provide comfort to the poppy tune of the melody. The heat emitted feels like climbing under a warm blanket to watch the show. Iglesias then switched to some Spanish songs, starting with "Duele el Corazón", which inspired a chorus in the audience. A member of Iglesias’ band performed the rap part (often recorded by someone like Pitbull), including this piece. This is another new song.

There is a dramatic episode before "Bailamos". After jumping off the stage, Enrique Iglesias took a photo with the fans in front, hugged and sang. At the same time, the band released his first English single in 1999. At this time, Iglesias and most of his band members entered the second stage through the crowd.

"I have a question: Does anyone speak Spanish?" He said to enthusiastic applause before the band started playing "Cuando Me Enamoro". He sang folk songs feet away from the concert audience behind the building.

"I have been in San Jose since 1995," he added later. "Think about it. I'm an old bastard." He talked about his love for fans and family. Considering that he is married to Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova and has three children, let’s assume that in the medley of "Looco" and "Me Pasé" he seems to share an intimate relationship with a substitute singer Dancing and kissing (after pouring wine for his band members and drinking water directly from the bottle) are really convincing performances.

He returned to the main stage of the Latin pop singer "Súbeme la Radio" and was interrupted by a brief tambourine solo. This led to "Be With You" and "Escape", as well as English songs, full of lasers and fog cannon explosions. Next is a surprisingly short cover of "Astronaut In The Ocean" by Masked Wolf. It would be great if the band can keep going, but Iglesias has other plans; mainly "Tonight (I fuck you)" Dirty but interesting single.

One of his most popular songs, the folk song "Hero" followed closely, and the crowd happily began to sing in a chorus. The extended editing of the song ended with him kneeling on the second stage. Following the Latin tune "El Perdón", he increased the excitement of the stadium sticks "Bailando" and "I Like It" to 11. Cue confetti and big balloons or beach balls to fall from the ceiling.

Of course, at this time, the performance has just ended.

Ricky Martin did not use conveyor belts, lasers, B-stages or confetti cannons. His set depends more on choreographed dance (he and a group of dancers), drama and costume changes. The multi-level stage of his band is even higher than that of Iglesias. It is divided into two by a wide staircase. When he first appeared on the staircase, he was wearing a black robe and wide-leg pants, showing his calf. . He didn't waste time, and started with "Livin' la Vida Loca", with dancers waving palms walking around him.

"La Bomba" has an impressive brass section with saxophone players, trombone players and trumpet players. For the first time in countless times, Martin (49) and his band members showed some well-designed salsa movements. "Qué Rico Fuera" provides more of the same type of rhetoric.

"Every time we get on stage, we have a chance to forget the terrible things of the past two years," Martin said in one of his few tirades to the audience. It was followed by the powerful folk ballad "Vuelve", after which Ricky Martin withdrew from the back of the stage and changed his costume, while his band played a jarring extended jam. Followed by drummer dancers performing martial arts style routines, including some cool rope percussion techniques and percussion routines. Finally, Martin returned, now wearing black pants and a black vest, as "Lola, Lola". The song also includes female dancers performing folk-style dances with shawls.

"She Bangs" is as provocative as the song was when it was first released in 2000. In "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely", he performed a duet with the surreal character Christina Aguilera on the screen. Although his performance lacks some of the more romantic nuances of Iglesias, it stands out in this song, as well as the gentle "Tu Recuerdo", highlighted by the fingerstyle acoustic guitar melody.

The back end of the set is accelerated by fast-paced party songs such as Puerto Rico plena jam "Pégate", where Ricky Martin is wearing a white suit (sleeveless jacket) and his dancers are wearing flowing white dresses and suits. Followed by "La Mordidita", "María" and the 2016 song "Vente Pa' Ca".

One advantage Iglesias does have over his tour partners is the quality of the mix. His album quality is close to album quality, at least in the lower bowls, and Martin is sometimes lower or quieter than his band. In addition, the bass-laden percussion bounced off the wall in "Shake Your Bon-Bon" and brought "The Cup of Life" closer, which made the sound of the two out of sync. This is a small inconvenience in the two complete and joyful scenes in the SAP Center.

Hello Roman, I watched the same show and it was obvious that you didn't notice the fact that Enrique Iglesias was lip-synching, and his real voice was rarely used in some parts. In addition, his band does not perform live like Ricky Martin's. Ricky Martin sang and danced live all night. You can't compare Ricky as an artist who can really sing and dance. A true performer. Enrique Iglesias does not sing or dance live, nor is he a good live performer.

You are absolutely right after watching the show 🙂 I can’t believe the person who wrote this article didn’t notice that Enrique can’t sing at all...Ricky is a real artist with an excellent voice and dance action.

Hi! I just want to know when Enrique came on stage? It would be great if you could tell me-thanks!
